Ask any woman what she spends the most time doing in the shower and the answer will usually be shaving.
But to cut down on time, some ladies will naturally lean towards using their regular shampoo, conditioner or shower gel as a shaving cream.

Not only are they already in your shower but it’s cheaper to use something for two uses than it is to buy two different products.

But according to dermatologist Dr. Anita Sturnham, it’s worth purchasing them separately.

‘Shaving has a naturally exfoliating mechanism of action, so you need to use products that are designed to work in synergy with your razor and improve glide, reduce friction, and the risk of irritation and cuts,’ she told Popsugar.

‘These formulations will coat the hairs, making them thicker and more difficult to shave.’

If that’s not enough to have you racing down to the nearest supermarket to correct your mistake, Dr Sturnham said the practice can also blunt your razor.

‘It can clog your razors, which ultimately means using your razor more often for results that aren’t as smooth,’ she said.

There are so many ingenious ways of shaving, Venus expert Fiona Tuck told FEMAIL, that it pays to play by the rules.

‘Shaving is not just regular shaving anymore. The new trend of skin smoothing with advanced razor technology delivers a customised beauty experience to take better care of the skin,’ she said.
‘Advanced shaving tools now allow the choice to incorporate technology such as flexible razor heads, ergonomically designed handles, moisture glide ribbons, multiple blades and in-built combs to perfectly match the right razor to your skin type.

‘This allows for silky smooth hair free skin without the shaving rashes, nicks and cuts of yester year.’
Other options, like waxing and laser, offer more long-term solutions to the hair problem but tend to come with more pain and a higher price tag.
