We’ve heard our fair share of food hacks over the years, from Jamie Oliver’s unusual secret to perfect roast potatoes to the surprising product that can stop your turkey from drying out.

But we have to say we never expected to see a beauty gadget championed as a cooking essential.

Yet that’s exactly what happened when foodie Helen Rosner, food correspondent at The New Yorker, shared her hack for perfectly crispy roast chicken on Twitter, using none other than a hairdryer…

Safe to say her tweet soon gained quite a lot of attention on social media, with over a thousand likes and countless retweets, not to mention plenty of puzzled questions about her technique.

Alongside a photo of the hack in action with a raw chicken, Rosner wrote: ‘I am using an astonishingly expensive hair dryer to remove all moisture from a chicken to maximise skin crispiness when I roast it.’

Rosner said explained that her ‘method has a long history with Peking Duck’. It turns out it works by helping to remove excess water from the bird before it goes into the oven, thereby facilitating the whole crispiness process.

Who knew, ey?
