Little is known about what viewers can expect – though it seems the one thing that’s sure is that plenty of characters won’t survive.
Of course, nothing has been revealed on specific characters’ fates, as everyone involved is keeping tight-lipped.
But speaking about Game of Thrones season eight’s final table read, HBO’s SVP of drama Francesca Orsi said: “It was a really powerful moment in our lives and our careers.
“None of the cast had received the scripts prior, and one by one they started falling down to their deaths.”
Viewers don’t need to worry about the six remaining episodes being anything less than quality though.
Orsi said that after the table read of the final episodes, everyone there stood up and clapped for between 15 and 20 minutes.
She explained: “It was amazing. By the very end, everyone looked down and looked up and tears were in their eyes.”
But that won’t be the end to the franchise, as she also touched upon the “three, four, five spinoffs” that are in development.
Other members of the cast have opened up about the remaining episodes, bringing expectations even higher.
Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, was excited to read the scripts for season eight.
She told Jimmy Kimmel: “I was in my bed reading. It’s just surreal being with this show for so long and it having the following it does.
“Everyone’s waiting for this moment and you read it and it’s incredible.”
In fact, the cast and crew are so tight on security that Maisie didn’t even say how many episodes are left, despite it being publicly confirmed to be six.
She told Jimmy: “I don’t know if they’ve said. I know how many there are but I don’t know if I’m allowed to reveal how many there are.”
The HBO epic has suffered at the hands of hackers in the past few years, with episodes ending up online early.
It seems for the ending, bosses are keen to make sure every last detail is kept a surprise.
Game of Thrones returns in 2019.
