Hotel expert Jacob Tomsky has confirmed your worst suspicion.
As a general rule, you shouldn’t really be rude to anyone.
It’s not always easy – some people are exceptionally rude themselves – and life is pitted with annoying and frustrating situations.
But, if you’re beyond salvation and just cannot help yourself, try to refrain from annoying or upsetting hotel staff .
We’re not suggesting you refrain from complaining completely. Just try to be polite and constructive with your criticism.
Especially if you’re going to be ordering room service…
Hotel expert Jacob Tomsky has worked in hospitality from ten years and has even written a memoir called Heads In Beds: A Reckless Memoir of Hotels, Hustles, and So-Called Hospitality.
So he knows thing or two about the secret goings-on of hotels, and has a dire warning for us all.
He told The Sun : “If you upset room service then they could spit in your food – the same as in any restaurant.”
Good to know.
Jacob continues: “It’s not just about being polite to room service though. Hotels are a hierarchy.
“Staff definitely talk about guests – you’d be naive to think otherwise. It’s one of our few pleasures!
“News will spread very quickly through the hotel about horrible guests.”
Thanks to social media, we live in an age where bad or annoying behaviour can quickly get outed online, so it pays to be careful.
That said, you should avoid being rude simply because it isn’t very nice.
