The incredible sight, near Ramsgate, was described as being “like the Armageddon” by wildlife enthusiast Lara Maiklem.

Ms Maiklem, 47, claimed the starfish and tens of thousands of other sea life washed onto the beach as the Beast from the East and Storm Emma smashed into Britain.

She said: “It was incredible. There were starfish as far as the eye could see, there were fish in there and sea urchins.

“I think someone found a lobster in there as well – and some false teeth. It was amazing. I live on the coast but I spend most of my time in London mudlarking in the Thames.

“I had heard about the starfish so I went down. There were quite a lot of people. I think they were first swept up yesterday and somebody told me they were there.

She added: “I have never seen anything like that before. The beast killed a lot of creatures. We saved as many as we could but it was like the Armageddon.”

The enthusiast uploaded the shocking pictures onto her London Mudlark Facebook page, which has about 30,000 followers.

People were quick to describe similar events elsewhere.

Chris Keyworth said: “It’s a natural phenomenon which happens all around our coast every year without the storms, normally you get one or the dying off in stages – one day its crabs, the next its sea stars, the next jellyfish.”

Last month, Daily Star Online revealed an Argentinian beach was covered with thousands of dead fish.

Experts believe the cause of mass fish deaths is a heatwave that has been hitting the city of Santa Rosa in the central Argentine province of La Pampa.
