Nintendo’s portable games console turns one year old this month.

The Nintendo Switch came out a year ago this month and Nintendo currently has no plans to introduce a successor.

Instead, the Japanese gaming giant is happy to add to the Switch experience with accessories and peripherals – such as the cardboard Nintendo Labo kits that were revealed in January .

So far, the Nintendo Switch has been a runaway success. The hybrid console, which can be plugged into a TV or carried around like a tablet, has sold 14.86 million units up to December 2017 and the company has forecasted 20 million in its second year.

Clearly the Japanese giant sees no need to dilute or interfere with the Switch by introducing a new model.

Sources familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal Nintendo will look to extend the console’s appeal through accessories – although what these are we don’t know.

There are a few big upcoming titles for the Switch that should sustain gamers’ interest, including Kirby Star Allies and Mario Tennis Aces. The system has also become a hub for indie games.
