The one mistake we’re all making with our foundation

A makeup artist once told me that if you take the time to perfect your skin and base, your look will always be flawless.

So when we found out this life-changing piece of foundation information, it only seemed fair to share it.

While we all love to slap on our base in different ways, it turns out that lots of us are getting it all wrong when it comes to the application. Some dot large spots of foundation all over the face and blend, while others use their hands to slather it on everywhere.

But there’s one particular method we should all be following: starting from the middle of our face and blending outwards.

Not only is the centre of the face where coverage is most needed (looking at you, red nose), it’s also the area where our foundation tends to fade quickest.

What’s more, starting in the middle and working your way outwards will help to create a natural finish that doesn’t look like a heavy mask.

Fabio Sarra, Beyou Make-Up Artist and Senior Lead Make-up Artist at Charlotte Tilbury, adds, ‘It’s better to start from the centre of the face and work outwards when applying foundation as most people tend to have redness around the nose and cheeks.

‘Blending from the centre outwards also gives a more natural looking base, focusing on the areas that need it most, rather than just covering the whole face.’
