If you’re one of the 10 million Brits who suffer from arthritis – a common condition causing pain and inflammation in the joints – then you might be interested to hear that a simple diet switch-up could help ease your symptoms…
That’s according to one health expert, who claims that eating one particular type of fruit may have offer an anti-inflammatory effect.
Speaking to the Express, Dr Sneh Khemka, Aetna International Director of Population Health, claimed that eating cherries could be helpful as part of a balanced diet.
‘Certain foods have been shown to fight inflammation, strengthen bones and improve the immune system,’ he said.
‘Adding these foods to your balanced diet, may help ease the symptoms of arthritis. Cherries have an anti-inflammatory effect and form part of your five-a-day.
‘If you don’t like cherries you can try other berries,’ he added. ‘Strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, raspberries have the same effect.’
Dr Khemka added that consuming more Omega-3 fatty acids, which are found in the likes of oily fish, could also prove helpful if you are suffering from painful joints.
This isn’t the first time experts have advised that oily fish can be helpful to those suffering from arthritis. Research published last summer by US scientists showed that eating more fish helped reduce inflammation and ease symptoms in arthritic patients.
