Valentine’s Day is fast-approaching – so now is the time to find yourself a date if you haven’t already.

When you’re looking for romance, it’s important that you don’t turn off your love interest by making any unfortunate blunders.

According to relationship experts, this can be easy as sending the wrong emoji when texting.

A poll from Insurance2go asked singletons to reveal their most hated emojis.

While many admitted to choosing the winking emoticon when flirting, this could actually be a mistake.

Research revealed that 29% of daters were put off by the cheeky graphic.

The kissing and heart-eyed graphics were close runners up, racking up 19% and 17% of the votes retrospectively.

Other emojis that were considered to be a turn off included the poop, smirk, muscle flex and lips.

Even though research showed that people disliked these emoticons, it didn’t stop them from using them.

The majority of participants admitted to using the winky and smoochy faces.

Heart-eyes, poked out tongues and naughty smiles also proved to be popular choices.

The dating guru said: “Emojis can be a minefield as different people interpret them in different ways.

“There are some that should be used sparingly, and others which should be retained until the relationship has reached a certain level.

“For instance, the cat with love eyes emoji signifies a very deep connection to the other person and a declaration of love – although it can also be used to show adoration for food.

“The aubergine emoji is particularly naughty, and should really only be used if the relationship has reached the sex phase, the same is true of the dripping water emoji.

“If in doubt, follow your partner’s lead. See how they use emojis and follow suit to play it safe.”
