Kansas mom of 6 Jes Hogan recently shared her latest birth story, an incredible case of just-in-time that was captured in full by photographer Tammy Karin of Little Leapling Photography.

Little Max was at first a long time coming. After days of contractions, during which Jes worried that she might have to be induced as the contractions weren’t leading to labor, Max all of a sudden decided he was coming out. Right now. “Oh god, we’re not going to make it. We are going to have this baby at home,” was Jes’ reaction to the sudden intensity of everything.

Her husband Travis was prepared and got her in the car and on the way to the hospital in no time, giving Jes the opportunity to let Karin, her birth photographer, know that she was on her way.

“As we neared the last turn to the hospital I began screaming that baby was coming,” she recalled. “Travis honked the horn rapidly as I screamed through the contractions and he pulled quickly into the ER drive.”

At first, nobody was around to help them. Tammy showed up just in time to witness their dramatic arrival. “Tammy told the receptionist that I was, in fact, having this baby right now and she needed to hurry and get help. Apparently, she didn’t quite understand the urgency at this exact moment.”

“Oh god, he’s here,” were her next words. “I then started to take my pants off because I could feel my body pushing the baby’s head out. I reached down and could feel his head crowning with my hand. I looked at my husband and said, “Travis catch him!” Without any hesitation, he did just that as I felt my body involuntarily pushing his head the rest of the way out.”

All this occurred on the floor of the ER hallway, with Tammy frantically calling for nurses while snapping away with her camera. The images she caught show the pure drama of the situation as nurses arrive just in the nick of time, and baby Max was successfully delivered right there and then on the hospital floor.

“It was my craziest birth, but also, the most perfect. It was not at all what I had planned, but it ended without any intervention, with a healthy baby, and amazing support people by our sides. It was beautiful and I’ll forever love every memory of it.”
