Chocolate bars should never be kept in a fridge – even on warm days – an expert has warned.
That is because cooler temperatures can apparently mess with the delicious taste.
Luke Owen Smith , who is an expert on the sweet treat and owns an online store called the Chocolate Bar, has come out with the advice which will come as a revelation to chocolate lovers.
Talking to Stuff in New Zealand, he said chilling chocolate in a fridge made it “dull” and “doesn’t release the flavours”.
He added: “Extremely cold temperatures can mess with the temper as much as hot temperatures can.”
So how do you save your chocolate from melting?
According to Smith the treat should be ideally kept in a dark, cool and dry place – just not the fridge.
A cupboard between 10 and 20 degrees C being the perfect temperature.
But if temperatures inside reaches 28C or above then people have no option but to refrigerate it – or risk it melting and becoming ruined anyway.
“If it’s too hot, then your fridge is the only option… it’s not great for chocolate,” Smith said.
So to keep it at as tasty as possible in the chiller, chocolate should be put in an airtight container before going in so it does not absorb any flavours and odours.
It should then be taken out and left to reach around 15c before eating.
