A deep discount on Nutella caused ruckus in grocery stores across France on Thursday, according to reports.
The Intermarché chain of grocery stores reduced the price of Nutella from €4.50 ($5.60) to €1.40 ($1.75) and so many people took advantage of the 70 percent price drop that shoppers climbed, clawed and hit to get a bottle of the chocolate spread, resembling Americans during a Black Friday sale.
“A woman had her hair pulled, an elderly lady took a box on her head, another had a bloody hand. It was horrible,” one customer in central France told Le Progres newspaper.
According to The Local, several local news reports across France described the scenes as akin to riots.
And several videos of the various melees were posted to social media.
“Serious? All that for Nutella?” wrote one Twitter user.
