Whether you’ve just moved into a new place or you’re redecorating your home, it’s more than likely that you will use paint in some way to transform your walls.
While choosing the right colour to suit your scheme is an important process, there’s a mistake that we’re all making when it comes to applying the paint, and it’s leaving us with undesirable results.
But BBC’s DIY SOS guest designer, Julia Kendell, says it’s an easy mistake to rectify going forward.
“When decorating, one of the key mistakes that people tend to make is to go for a really pricey paint thinking it’s going to look fabulous and then use incredibly cheap paintbrushes to apply it,” says Julia. “Not surprisingly the effect will never be as they hoped as brush quality is essential for the best results.”
Julia, who is a property expert for the upcoming National Homebuilding & Renovating Show (22-25 March 2018, NEC, Birmingham), says you can actually save yourself some money if you buy cheaper paint instead.
“If you invest in some really good quality paint brushes, it’s actually possible to get away with using a cheaper paint – and if you take the time to prep properly you can actually get a really good finish with paints of all prices,” she reveals. “Today there are more and more high street stores bringing out their own well-priced ranges of great paints so make sure you shop around and you’re clever about what you buy.”
