This is the moment a polar bear captured a series of cheeky selfies as it examined a camera in the Arctic.
The giant carnivore achieved mixed results as it triggered a so-called ‘photo trap’ on Russia’s remote Wrangel Island in Chuckchi Sea.

One image shows a fearsome underside view of the bear’s powerful jaws while others appear to capture its back and the top of its head.

A separate video shows one of the animals reaching up on its hind legs to peer into a similar-looking weather monitor, secured in an oil barrel filled with concrete, reportedThe Siberian Times.

Wrangel Island has around 600 polar bears, the highest concentration anywhere in the world. The island is part of the Russian region of Chukotka, where tycoon Roman Abramovich was once governor.
