Geodes have been popular in the beauty industry for some time now, with make up artists replicating the rock via nail art and lip art.

One Melbourne woman, Katy Tolj, 19, is a self-taught make up artist who has created the most incredible geode body art using only make up.

‘I’ve always loved geodes and crystals, one day I was talking with a family member and we were at a geode shop and I came up with the idea of splitting my arm open to show what’s underneath, geodes and crystals, instead of gore and blood and scary stuff,’ Katy told FEMAIL.

‘I wanted to turn it into something beautiful to show that we all have tiny universes in us.’

Her work normally takes two to three hours to complete but it all depends on how complicated it is.
Katy also likes to change up the products she uses depending on the colour and look that she’s going for but some of her core products are Lime Crime Diamond Crushers, an array of chunky glitters and Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation to create a flawless base.

‘There’s no real design process, I have a lot of crystals and geodes at home and I usually just look at them and study the shape and the way the light falls on them and then I go from there,’ she told FEMAIL.

Katy is inspired by geodes and crystals because of how unique the structures are.
At the moment arms are where Katy prefers to create these geodes, but she has done face crystal art in the past and is thinking about expanding to other parts of the body.

Katy now has over 13,000 followers on Instagram and each image she posts receives comments of support but that doesn’t mean the odd negative comment doesn’t slip through.

‘The response has mainly been good, of course there will be people who don’t like what I do and there’s always haters [sic] but I don’t do it for them I do it for me and the beautiful people who follow me,’ she said.
In a short video Katy posted to her Instagram account she showed how her pieces of art sparkle in the light.
Another reason for her posting the video was to prove to those who doubted her work that the pictures were real.

‘Short video to show that this is three hours of work and make up, this is not putting a real life actual geode on my arm and taking a photo, this is not grabbing a photo from google and Photoshopping it on and saying it’s make up,’ she began.

‘This is real and my make up creation. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve gotten countless comments saying it’s not real and that it’s “not possible” so I thought I would do a video for you all to show that in fact it is and it’s all done with time and patience.

‘Thank you all for the love on my geode creations and for all the support. That will always overrule the hate and mean comments, I just thought I’d clear the air.’
