Why you SHOULD wash your hair every day, according to a top trichologist

We’ve long been told that washing your hair too regularly can lead to a whole host of issues: not only will you waste time (and shampoo) by doing so, but you could also make your hair greasier and even damage it.

Or so we thought…

Because, according to top trichologist Anabel Kingsley, the whole idea that you can “over-wash” your hair is a complete myth.

In fact, she reckons a daily lather, rinse, repeat could actually be the best thing for your locks.

Speaking to Business Insider, Kingsley explained: ‘You should think of washing your hair as a a skincare regime, after all your scalp is just skin.

‘It has oil and sweat glands, and with all of the secretions being produced, added to pollution, you don’t want it sitting on there for days.’

And, if you’re prone to having greasy hair, then washing more regularly is even more important…

‘Ideally we say you should wash your hair everyday, and certainly if you have greasy hair,’ she added.

‘Every follicle has an oil gland attached to it and people with fine hair usually have more hairs on the scalp, therefore you’ll find hair gets really quite greasy by the end of the day, and the only way to get rid of it is by shampooing.’

Of course, there are some exceptions: if you have particularly coarse hair, then a daily wash is probably not for you. But, even in that instance, Kingsley recommends shampooing regularly.

‘If you have really coarse hair and shampooing each day isn’t realistic because you need to use straighteners etc., then you should definitely not leave it more than three days in between,’ she said.
