We all know that makeup and skincare products can end up costing an absolute fortune – and we can’t be the only ones fed up with splashing out on an expensive pot of night cream only to finish it within a matter of weeks.

Well, it turns out that we haven’t been doing our finances any favours because an expert has just revealed exactly how much product to use on your face – and we’ve been slathering on way too much this whole time.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Australian dermatologist Dr Natasha Cook explained exactly how much serum, moisturiser, eye cream and foundation you should actually use. And the answer is not very much at all.

Serum

How much to use: A pea-sized amount. ‘These products are, in theory, concentrated with a high percentage of active ingredients. This means you shouldn’t need too much,’ said Dr Cook.

Moisturiser

How much to use: ‘Two pumps if it is a pump applicator or an almond-sized amount over the entire face,’ she added.

Eye Cream

How much to use: A sunflower seed-sized amount. ‘These creams tend to be rich so you only need a small amount,’ she explained.

Foundation

How much to use: ‘Pea size, evenly distributed. If you’ve got a larger face, you may need slightly more,’ she said.
