We’ve seen all manner of brutal courting trends this year – and this one is no exception.
Singletons have been targeted by a variety of brutal dating methods, including ghosting, Marleying and illegal stealthing.
But now, there’s another relationship sin that’s set to takeover.
So what is d*** and dash and why can its affects be so heartbreaking?
What is d*** and dash?
This festive season, the expression d*** and dash as been springing up online.
The term refers to using someone purely for sex.
Unlike an ordinary fling, the romance relies on one of the people believing that they are investing their time into a long-term relationship.
So when they get ditched in less than a week, the results can be heartbreaking.
Urban Dictionary defines it as: “the process of being in a relationship just for sex then dumping them in a short amount of time. (Time varies from 24 hours to only a week.)
“It’s also referred to short relationships that are unnecessary since it was only for the d***.”
How can you tell when you’re being used?
When you’re keen for something serious, be careful that your crush isn’t just after a bit of fun.
If they only ever contact you late at night, they could only be into you when their in the mood.
Similarly, reduced contact on weekends suggests they could be looking to romp elsewhere.
It’s not just stilted communication that can be a red flag – OTT displays of affection are also a no-no.
If you’ve only just met someone and they’re showering you with compliments and romantic gestures, they could be trying to find a quick way to get you into bed.
While this dating sin can be a worry, it will not affect all singletons.
Signs that a new partner could be looking for something more long-term than a d*** and dash include introducing you to family and friends.
If someone invites you into their life, they probably don’t have any immediate plans to ditch you.
If they’re not trying to pressure you into sex straight away, they’re probably looking for something more meaningful.
