A tiny island just off Alexandria Bay in the state of New York is the perfect escape from civilization, with only enough land for a cottage and tree.

Situated on the St Lawrence River, the island was bought by the Sizeland family in 1950, who then built a charming cottage and planted a tree on the minuscule piece of land. The island was then perfectly renamed ‘Just Room Enough’, as nearly every inch of land is taken up.

The island, which is one of more than 1,800 islands located on the river as part of the Thousand Islands archipelago, according to Conde Nast Traveler, and is no bigger than a tennis court.

Measuring 3,300 square feet, the island is around half the size of Bishop Rock, just off the Isles of Scilly, which Guinness Book of World Records once named the world’s smallest inhabited island. Just Room Enough now takes that crown.

Sounds like the perfect secluded escape to us – though the postman might have some trouble delivering there!
