Once upon a time, it was all about the battle for Christmas number one, but now a new race has taken over the festive period: the best Christmas advert…

For the last few years, John Lewis has dominated with its Christmas ads but nowadays the competition has stiffened with plenty of big brands offering up their own festive campaigns, from supermarkets to charities.

Whether you prefer the emotional tearjerkers or the funny clips, it looks like one Christmas advert has dominated in 2017 and John Lewis’ Moz the Monster may have been usurped…

By Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot.

Yep, after analysing social media posts to gauge the public’s response, data firm 4C Insights has concluded that budget supermarket Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot campaign has come out on top as the most popular.

After calculating what it calls ‘the social lift’ of each advert – how much it was mentioned on social media in the first five minutes after the ads aired, and how much the brands were mentioned in the run-up to the campaigns officially launching – the data experts concluded that Aldi provoked the strongest reaction with a lift of 152%.

And, to be fair, who wouldn’t agree that Kevin the Carrot is pretty adorable?

Other popular adverts that made the top 10 include M&S’ Paddington Bear campaign, which was separately rated as the top ad for ‘sentimentality’.
