To give us a preview of what we can expect when it comes to country-style interiors in 2018, our homes editors Alaina Binks and Ben Kendrick have compiled a 2018 homes forecast for every season.

So, if you’re planing on redecorating a room or simply want to update your home with a few fashionable pieces in 2018, use this as your guide…

SPRING

• Gentle pastel tones, in particular pale powdery pinks, soft mint tones and duck egg blue.

• Motifs of spring blooms such as tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and muscari.

• Classic patterns including hares, hens and vintage florals.

SUMMER

• Faded stripes, checks and florals with a weather-worn effect – blues, reds, turquoise and sea glass tones (not necessarily used together).

• Bright, ditsy florals such as a scattered meadow designs featuring wild flowers on fabric.

• Coastal bird prints (waders/shorebirds) feathers and eggs, likely watercolour/watery/painterly drawings.

• Botanicals and historical plant drawings.

AUTUMN

• Seed heads and fields of straw with a late summer, harvest feel.

• Arts & Crafts inspired – new contemporary craft in the spirit of this ethos and re-worked traditional designs from the original 19th Century movement.

• Woodland – rustic woods, woodland creatures such as owls etc in warm tones and textures.

• Modern Country – raw materials and textures (wood, brick, heavyweight linens) and handmade ceramics with industrial-style elements.

WINTER

• Velvets in rich and intense shades such as teal, mustard, deep grey, dark greens (plains and printed).

• Metallics – from warm copper and brass to galvanised zinc (with candlelight).

• Texture – knitted materials including wool and sheepskins in neutral tones like warm ochre, and saffron, with olive greens to contrast.
