First it was mash and now we’re hearing that we’ve been cooking bangers all wrong! Yep, that’s right – a cooking expert has revealed the secret to the perfect sausage and now we might just have to rethink our whole technique!

Apparently, the way you may have been sizzling your sausages could be ruining their taste, reports the Mail Online.

Say what!? We’ve been sabotaging our own sausages…

Yep, turns out if you’ve been grilling or barbecuing your bangers (which, to be fair, we only do on the two days of the year that summer actually shows its face in Britain), then you’ve been unwittingly denting the deliciousness of your fry-up!

At least according to food blogger Martin King, who is claiming that the only way to cook your sausages perfectly is in a frying pan on a low heat.

He says you should then leave them to cook slowly for 30 minutes with – and this is crucial, apparently – a knob of unsalted butter. Sorry, but who has the patience to cook their sausages for half an hour!? It’s not a hog roast…

But anyway according to King, who runs the blog TheWhyChef.com, this method will mean your sausages have extra flavour and texture. He reckons this is because the low heat lets the pork fat melt leaving the outsides crispy and golden rather than burnt and blackened.

‘The higher the heat, the less the fat renders, the faster the skins burn, and the less likely you are to have a cooked centre before the outer edges start to get tough,’ he says.

As for why you should choose butter, Martin says it offers more flavour than oil.

Mind blown.
