If you’ve ever tried to make chips at home and failed spectacularly to nail that crispy-yet-fluffy-on-the inside taste that you get at restaurants, we have some fantastic news…
It turns out you can create the perfect french fry at home – and there’s surprising secret ingredient that will help you do it, the Mail Online reports.
And the good thing is you probably have it in your kitchen cupboard already…
According to the food experts at Greatist, a touch of cornflour is all you need to turn your chips from blah to bloody brilliant.
Apparently getting your ratios right is absolutely crucial, too: aim to slice your potatoes into wedges that are just a quarter of an inch thick. If they’re any thinner, then they’ll just burn on the outside before they’ve even cooked properly, they say.
Your next step is to pat them dry and then sprinkle each chip with a tablespoon of cornflour. (This sounds a bit arduous but we guess it’s worth the effort!)
Next up, cover your chips in a bit olive oil and then pop them into a baking tray, taking care to spread them evenly before placing them in the oven for 20-25 minutes at 230 degrees celsius.
Our mouths are salivating already…
