We like to think we’re practically carb experts here at Prima.co.uk, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t occasionally wondered whether we’re cooking our pasta to perfection, or whether it could potentially get EVEN tastier…

Well, scientists now claim to have identified the ultimate technique for preparing your pasta like a total pro.

The American Chemical Society has released a video, explaining exactly how to cook your spaghetti, the Mail Online reports.

And, you’ll be pleased to hear that the traditional technique you’ve probably been using all along is still the best!

While a few TV chefs have advocated putting olive oil into your pasta water in recent years, The American Chemical Society has confirmed that this is basically a waste of time. Because as soon as you drain your pasta, all that oil just washes straight down the drain.

But the one thing you DO want to add to your saucepan is – you guessed it – salt. It really will enhance the flavour of your pasta, they say.

‘If you were to enter a food competition without salt, you wouldn’t last very long,’ scientific consultant Kyle Nackers explains in the clip.

The team then recommends adding a ladle of said salty water to your sauce for extra deliciousness.

And, whatever you do, DO NOT rinse the pasta after you’ve drained it – because it will just rinse away all that sticky starch that keeps your spaghetti coated nicely in sauce.
