Whether you can only last for a few seconds or keep going all night, you’ve probably wondered about the perfect amount of time to spend in the sack.
And believe it or not, great sex should go on for minutes and not hours.
A survey quizzed American and Canadian sex therapists – including psychologists, physicians, social workers, marriage/family therapists and nurses – about their thoughts on the ideal sex duration from penetration until ejaculation.
On average the sexperts agreed that a romp lasting one to two minutes was “too short”, three to seven minutes was “adequate”, seven to 13 minutes was “desirable” and 10 to 30 minutes was “too long”.
Researchers said: “A man’s or woman’s interpretation of his or her sexual functioning as well as the partner’s relies on personal beliefs developed in part from society’s messages, formal and informal.
“Unfortunately, today’s popular culture has reinforced stereotypes about sexual activity.
“Many men and women seem to believe the fantasy model of large penises, rock-hard erections and all-night-long intercourse.”
But previous research found lots of people wanted sex to last 30 minutes or longer.
Lead author Eric Corty said: “This seems a situation ripe for disappointment and dissatisfaction.
“With this survey, we hope to dispel such fantasies and encourage men and women with realistic data about acceptable sexual intercourse, thus preventing sexual disappointments and dysfunctions.”
Meanwhile scientists recently found out how long the average sex sessions lasted – with romps ranging from 33 seconds to 44 minutes.
While there’s clearly not one normal duration, the average time for sex was 5.4 minutes.
If you’re worried about your stamina in the sack you’re not alone because as many as one in three lads say their romps end sooner than they want.
But don’t worry because there’s some very simple sexual tricks that can boost your stamina in the sack and help you last longer in bed naturally.
Edging, squeezing and kegels are great ways to maintain your erection and stave off ejaculation, or alternatively try switching up your sex positions.
