We reported recently how eating more slowly may be key to a small waistline and long life. But just how slowly is slowly enough?
Well one expert has revealed that we all need to be chewing each mouthful 20 to 30 times.
Harley Street nutritionist Rhiannon Lambert also told The Telegraph that we should also be putting our knife and fork down after each bite and sipping on water throughout a meal.
And we should never eat in front of the TV or while looking at our phones.
‘If you’re just putting food in while looking at a screen, you’re not letting the process [of mindfully eating] happen,’ she advised.
‘And then the signals that tell you when you’re hungry and sore can be disrupted.’
Eating more mindfully – slowing down and focusing on every mouthful – is now thought to be one of the most important tactics for maintaining a healthy weight, and could even help you ward off the pounds throughout the party season.
So try put this in practice while eating your dinner tonight, and see if it helps you eat less and feel fuller.
