If you love to display your perfume bottle on your dressing table or bathroom shelf then, we hate to break it to you, but you might inadvertently have been ruining your signature scent…
That’s according to one storage expert, who says that doing so could make some perfumes and colognes ‘break down’.
Instead, storage expert Vlatka Lake from Space Station believes you should keep your fragrance in a slightly unexpected place: the fridge…
‘Many of us keep our prized perfume collection on display on our dressing tables,’ she says.
‘However, to prolong the scent of your favourite fragrance, sometimes it is best to store them in a refrigerator.’
Apparently, it’s all down to the way that heat and light can affect some scents.
‘Perfumes and colognes with high oil concentrates can break down over time when exposed to light and heat,’ she explains.
Well, we guess that makes *scents*…
But, if the idea of keeping your Chanel No5 next to the ketchup sounds like a step too far, then you should at least consider storing it in your bedside drawer or dresser.
‘Remember to always keep fragrances away from window sills and bathrooms and opt for a dry, cold storage cupboard if fridge space isn’t available,’ she adds.
So now we know – maybe this is why our perfume always seems to run out so fast!
