Does anyone still wear a hat? We’re glad you asked. Because they absolutely do. And if we’re talking about this season specifically, we’re willing to bet everyone will be sporting the following five topper trends.

BERETS

Say enchanté to your new favorite accessory. A dark beret is cool and ladylike and perfect for staying chic in chilly temps. Since it has a slight vintage flair, keep your outfit modern (think: a chunky sweater half-tucked into a printed skirt) and maybe save your baguette-shopping for another day lest you look like a Parisian parody.

NEWSBOY

These billed bad boys are majorly trending on Pinterest (as in, searches for them are up 327 percent). At first glance they look a bit tough to pull off, but upon further inspection (by which we mean stalking stylish women on the internet), we realized that they’re surprisingly versatile and pair nicely with everything from jeans to skirts.

WIDE BRIMS

Holy chicness. Wide-brim hats are the gold standard in glam toppers for good reason. They just have a magical way of making you look like a movie star. Worn with a structured jacket like a trench or blazer, the resulting look is elegant while conveniently blocking any low winter glare.

RED

Oh, you thought red was only trending for clothes and bags this season? Think again. Scarlett-hued hats are a great, noncommittal way to get in on the look without going all in on a more expensive piece like a dress or coat. To make sure your hat is the star of the show, keep the rest of your outfit neutral. (And yes, we’re considering her leopard bag a neutral.)

BASEBALL CAPS

Do you want to look sporty even though you’re unathletic to the point of injuring yourself getting off a spin bike? Wear a baseball cap, baby. The style has come a long way from the team logos of yore (although that’s still acceptable). Now, they’re trending in solid colors and cool fabrics like wool, tweed and leather, and fit right in with everything from jeans and a sweater to a swing dress and boots.
