If you’ve ever woken up in the middle of the night and couldn’t get back to sleep because you were too busy wondering why Coke cans were red, here’s your answer.

The distinctive can’s trademark red isn’t just a random choice – and doesn’t have anything to do with Christmas.

It’s all to do with taxes.

When the popular fizzy drink first came to fruition in the 1890s, it was served out of large barrels in shops across the US.

Fizzy drinks weren’t taxed unlike alcohol which was stored in similar barrels.

To tell them apart, Coca-Cola decided to paint their barrels red for tax officials.

The colour stuck and became the brand’s signature – something that has been confirmed by the company.

Meanwhile, Daily Star Online recently revealed what happens to your body if you drink coke every day.

Juts one can of Coke contains around 46g of sugar, 16g more than the daily recommended intake of 30g.
According to a Youtube video by ASAP science, drinking a can of cola every day will increase your calorie intake, make you gain weight and age you at the same rate as a smoker.

The more you drink, the more harmful it is as one woman who drank two litres of the fizzy every day for 16 years was hospitalised at 31 because she was suffering from fainting spells and arrhythmia.

After she quit the drink, her health problems miraculously cleared up.
