Shocking new research has revealed that half of lads can’t correctly locate the vagina on a diagram.
A study conducted by the Eve Appeal asked 1,000 men to label parts of the female anatomy – including the vagina, vulva, cervix, ovaries and Fallopian tubes – on a drawing of the human body.

This study was published to coincide with Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month and to raise awareness about gynaecological issues in women and men – because male participants felt like they didn’t need to know about the “female issue”.The finding comes after researchers asked ladies to do the same thing last year and a whopping 44% of women didn’t have a clue where the vagina was either. The research highlights some shocking failings of our current sexual education system to say the least, but what is more important is the repercussions this lack of knowledge has on our sexual health and ability to spot symptoms.Warning signs of gynaecological cancers include irregular bleeding, pain during sex, unusual vaginal discharge, persistent vaginal itching, bloating, abdominal pain and a lump or swelling down below.

And it turned out that half of the participants – or 500 men – were unable to find and label the vagina while a massive 61% couldn’t recognise the vulva.

Indeed many of the lads admitted they think that female sex organs are still “shrouded in mystery”.

The Eve Appeal’s chief executive, Athena Lamnisos, said: “These survey results show shockingly low levels of awareness of the symptoms of gynaecological cancer among both men and women.

“We know from the many calls that we receive at The Eve Appeal from men, that they can play a vital role in identifying the symptoms of gynaecological cancer, prompting their partners to visit the GP.

“Early diagnosis really is key and can save lives.”
