Motorists forced to ditch their petrol and diesel cars to keep in line with the government’s anti-pollution ban could be stung by 45% higher insurance premiums, a report has warned.
Drivers choosing to ‘go green’ by opting for electric could face a steep increase in their annual cover by an extra £330 a year, according to new research by Compare the Market .
The comparison website found that while the average car insurance premium currently stands at £740, an electric motor would cost £1,070 to cover a year, Mirror has reported.
