Famous architect Zaha Hadid’s most incredible buildings
Bridge Pavilion, Zaragoza (2008) Constructed for the 2008 Expo, this 280-metre building crosses the Ebro river.
Changsha Meixihu International Cultural Centre, China (TBC) The sinuous curves for which Hadid was renowned can be found at this arts centre on the banks of Meixi Lake in Changsha. Construction started in 2013 but it has not yet opened to the public.
Bee’ah headquarters, Sharjah, UAE (TBC) Another of Hadid’s unfinished projects. The new main office of the environmental and waste management company will be housed in an eco-friendly complex designed like a “series of intersecting dunes” that optimise its desert surroundings. Construction began in 2014 and a date for completion is yet to be confirmed.
One Thousand Museum, Miami, US (2018) Hadid built several multi-level complexes around the world, but not many towers. But this striking 62-storey residential tower will be completed in 2018.
Sleuk Rith Institute, Cambodia (2018) This research and education centre will house the largest documentation on genocide-related material in south-east Asia
King Abdullah Petroleum Research Centre, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (2016) The research centre is made up of three-dimensional six-side cells coated by protective outer shells that shelter courtyards.
City of Dreams, Macau This powerful monolithic block enveloped in an exoskeleton meshed structure will be a luxury 40-floor hotel, opening in 2017. The ‘super lounge’ will have glass pyramids jutting dramatically out from the roof, in true Hadid style.
Eleftheria Square, Nicosia, Cyprus (TBC) The vast urban plaza will serve to connect Nicosia’s fortified Venetian walls with the modern city, while the moat engulfing the walls will be made into the city’s main park featuring various recreational venues including for art exhibitions, sculpture gardens and sport activities.
