Just in case your jeans are no longer fit like they used to, maybe you can blame your love for your significant other. Based on a scientific study, one of the unquestionable ways to tell if a couple is happily in love is by checking out their weight gain.
A new research conducted by the Research of the National Center of Biotechnology Information reveals that the couples who’re contented with their relationships have the possibility to gain weight together. The said study followed 169 married couples for four years and their weight was recorded two times a year. Apart from that, they were interviewed about their marriage. Later on, the result suggests that the couples who are indeed happy with their relationships gained weight while the others who remained slip eventually parted ways.
The researchers stated, the reason behind the discovery is that the couples in happy relationships don’t feel any pressure to attract or impress their partner. Being in a delightful relationship offers self-assurance that the one you love will not leave you. In comparison, the research shows that those in unhappy relationships did their best to stay in shape in the hopes to stay attractive to others.
Nevertheless, the specialists had warned these couples about the negative consequences of gaining too much weight. Obesity can lead to diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and other health issues. Psychologist Andrea L. Meltzer stated that “By focusing more on weight in terms of health implications as opposed to appearance implications, satisfied couples may be able to avoid potentially unhealthy weight gain over time in their marriages.”
With this, the couples are also encouraged to circumvent “unhealthy weight gain.” While an expanding waistline may be a good sign of your relationship. It is still important to exercise and live a healthy lifestyle.
