Just when you thought you’d reached peak avocado – see the 7.5 million #avocado posts on Instagram – a new way to eat the fleshy green fruit saturates everyone’s social media feeds.

How you take your avocado can be a highly contentious issue.

While some opt for a standard toast combination (always sourdough, sometimes rye), others living their best #glutenfree life will shun a bread base for something quirkier, yet equally as Insta-friendly, such as sweet potato.

However, when it comes to the best and tastiest way to eat an avocado, it seems that less really is more, as American chef and author Candice Kumai claims all you really need to reach an avo-induced nirvana is a dash of soy sauce.

Speaking at a Well+Good retreat in Palm Springs, California, Kumai revealed she has perfected the art of avocado-eating after admitting that she eats three avocados every day, clearly this is a woman well-acquainted with #avogoals.

After chopping the avocado in half, all she does is add a splash of soy sauce and a squeeze of lemon juice on top, then it’s ready to eat, straight from the skin, she said.

The health benefits of avocados have been well-documented, with endless studies lauding the fruit’s healthy monounsaturated fat content, linking to lowering cholesterol and reducing the risk of heart disease and cancer.

However, despite the avocado’s stratospheric rise in popularity in recent years, Tesco recently revealed that it has been overtaken as the UK’s fastest-selling fruit by none other than the humble pineapple.

Just when you thought you’d hit guac bottom.
