Whether you prefer to curl up on your side, cuddle up with your partner or spread yourself right out across the bed, we all have a personal preference when it comes to sleeping positions.
But it looks like some of them could be better at helping us wake up feeling refreshed – at least according to a new poll.
The study of 5,000 people, commissioned by mattress firm Sealy, revealed that one position seems to offer the most restful and restorative night’s sleep, as Mail Online reports.
And it’s definitely not the one we were expecting…
While research has often suggested that those of us who favour sleeping on our sides get the best night’s rest, the study showed that a ‘star fish’ pose may be preferable.
Yep, those who chose to sleep spread out on their backs reported feeling the most refreshed upon waking in the poll.
Thirty per cent of the ‘star fishers’ said they woke up feeling well-rested, compared to just 23 and 22 per cent of those sleeping on their left and right sides respectively.
Meanwhile, those who slept on their front seemed to be the least refreshed, with just 21.5% saying they wake up feeling rested on a regular basis.
Sealy spokesperson Neil Robinson told MailOnline: ‘We know that certain sleep positions promote a good night’s rest – laying on your left or right side for example – and that’s perhaps why these are the nation’s favourite.
‘So it’s therefore surprising to see so-called “star-fish” sleepers reporting the highest levels of waking up feeling refreshed and well-rested when compared with any other position.’
