We’ve seen all manner of bizarre courting trends in recent months – and this one is no exception.

Singletons have been targeted by a variety of brutal dating methods, including ghosting, Marleying and d*** and dash.

But now, there’s another relationship sin that’s set to takeover this year.

Hiberdating is an irritating habit that most people will be guilty of at some point in their lifetime.

It combines the words hibernation and dating to describe someone falling off the radar when they get into a relationship.

The pet peeve first begins when a loved-up person starts ditching their loved ones in favour of their partner.

Often, this leads to the person becoming isolated from their family and friends.

While the word first sprung up on Urban Dictionary in 2010, it’s been trending again in recent weeks.

The reason for the recent influx might be due to the bad weather – couples are staying in and having sex instead of venturing out to socialise.

The online slang site describes the term as: “Someone who ignores all their other friends when they are dating a boyfriend/girlfriend.”

As well as annoying their pals by forgetting about them, hiberdaters also irk their mates when they always attend gatherings with their partners.

The second definition adds: “In addition to being a situation in which two people date so exclusively that you rarely see them, the hiberdating couple will make occasional public appearances.

“During these appearances, the two will never acknowledge anyone but each other, never stop touching/caressing each other, and will annoy the living p*** out of anyone and everyone in their vicinity, especially used-to-be friends of the hiberdaters.”

It seems that these scenarios are all-too-familiar, as more than 12,000 people have up-voted the term.

When it comes to new relationships, it’s always important to find balance.

Not only will this keep your friends and family sweet, it is also key for maintaining your own personal life.

As well as this, time apart can help to keep the fire alive in your relationship.
