This is where to sit on a plane if you want to sleep well in economy class

We all know that catching some shut-eye on a flight when you’re crammed into economy class is no mean feat with noisy neighbours, screaming babies and bumpy turbulence to contend with.

But it turns out where you choose to sit on a plane could make all the difference to your chances of catching some much-needed rest on that early morning flight…

That’s according to aircraft interiors specialist Ron Soret, Vice President of US company AERIA Luxury Interiors, who told the Mail Online that your best bet is sitting at the front of the plane.

The main reason? You’ll probably be in for a smoother ride…

‘The front part of the cabin is typically the most comfortable,’ says Soret. ‘Turbulence will be felt throughout the airplane but is milder in the forward part.’

This is because the wings keep a plane balanced, so any seat near them will experience less turbulence, apparently.

On top of this, Soret claims that the front of the plane is likely to be quieter, too.

‘Areas aft (near the back) of the engine exhaust are the noisier part of the cabin,’ he says.

And, when it comes to your seat, Soret says you should opt for the aisle if you want a bit more room to stretch out, as it’s the best choice for optimising leg room.

Of course, choosing to sit at the end of the row comes with its own issues, including having to stand up whenever your fellow passengers want to go to the toilet or stretch their legs.

With that in mind, you’re probably better off opting to sit by the window, says Soret, for the best chance of nodding off undisturbed.

So, there you have it, maybe it is worth spending that bit extra to reserve a seat near the front – and by the window – next time you fly…
