Never mind Valentine’s Day, it looks like the festive season is still the most popular time of year for men and women to pop the question.
While the majority of weddings take place in the summer months, an estimated 100,000 proposals are likely to happen over the 2017 Christmas period, according toBridebook.co.uk.
The wedding planning website looked at month-by-month break down of engagements in 2016 and found that December was the most popular time for proposals, with over half of all engagements that month taking place in the week of 19th of December.
Taking this data, along with analysis of their client base, into consideration, Bridebook predicts that the most popular day for proposals this year is likely to be Saturday 23rd December.
‘Historically the Christmas weekend has always been a popular time for people looking to pop the question to choose,’ a spokesperson for the brand told Harper’s Bazaar. ‘Last year (in 2016) almost 1/5 of all proposals that year took place in the month of December, and the Christmas week was when the highest number took place.
‘This year Christmas Day falls on a Monday, and so we expect to see a similar pattern with a large fraction of engagements on Saturday 23rd December and Sunday 24th December. The most popular day, based on our analysis of 100,000 brides currently planning their weddings with us, will be Saturday 23rd December.’
Logistically, December is a great time for engagement announcements, with family and friends often already gathered to celebrate. It certainly makes for a Christmas that won’t be forgotten.
