We all know that a minimalist lifestyle can benefit your health mentally, physically, and spiritually. Making that first move into the lifestyle can be hard though. We might feel used to our current lifestyle so much, it’s hard to change! We got your back and are giving you five ways that you can start your journey into a more minimalist lifestyle. It’ll make you feel happier and more zen in your every day life.

Tip #1: Cut Down on Clothes

Women especially can attest to the fact that clothes have a way of piling up. Old clothing items we once adored can start to gather dust in our closet. In order to live a minimalist lifestyle, we can’t add to the pile that’s growing in our closets. First, either sell or donate your old and unused clothes. And to stop the pile from growing, give yourself some boundaries when shopping for new clothing items.

Tips #2: Don’t Keep Duplicates

You might not know it, but there is a high chance you have two or maybe more of something where you only need one. For example, household items such as scissors, measuring tape, and headphones can pile up in a number of different places. Try to streamline these items and get rid of the duplicates. Set a specific place for each of these items so you know where to find them when you need them, so you don’t have to keep buying them and add to the clutter!

Tip #3: Donate Unused Items to Charity

It can be helpful in starting a minimalist lifestyle to be able to let go of items you might have been attached to. For example, that old car that’s gathering dust in the garage, but has not worked since 1986. Make a use out of it and donate the car to charity. Get in the habit of giving so you only possess items that are useful and give you joy.

Tip #4: Learn to Let Go with Mental Breaks

Now that we’ve focused on the physical changes to gain a more minimal life, let’s talk about the mental changes we can make. Taking mental breaks by meditating, staying present-focused, and utilizing self care are all great ways to get comfortable with the “letting go” mentality. If we become comfortable letting our thoughts go more easily, this attitude will help us let go in other areas of our life.

Tip #5: Cut Out Unnecessary Foods

Last but not least, the food that we put into our mouths and bodies should be useful and joyful to our lives if we want to lead a minimal life. Cut out the harsh chemical sugars, and processed junk. Eating whole and healthy foods will help us eat less and gain more health benefits!
