SKIP THE ELEVATOR
Unless you’re on the top floor of a 50-floor building, climbing several flights of stairs is great for the booty and will help get your blood flowing.
GET UP AND GO TALK TO YOUR COLLEAGUES
It might be tempting to send your colleague a message by Skype or email him or her asking for a favor. But you’re not doing yourself any. Get up and walk over to your colleague, so you can stretch the legs a bit and at least be moving temporarily.
GET OFF THE SUBWAY ONE STOP EARLIER
Another way to beat a sedentary lifestyle is to get off the subway one stop earlier. It might only be a small 5 to 10 minute walk, but it will burn some calories! Every bit counts.
DON’T EAT AT YOUR DESK
There’s nothing worse than eating in front of your computer! If you have the time, when it’s nice out, take your lunch somewhere outside. Or at least get up and go take a brisk walk around the block for some fresh air and a quick burst of activity.
STAND AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE
Hemingway preferred to write while standing—you can do the same while working! Okay, it might be awkward to stand and type at your desk, but at least get up to walk around when you take business calls.
BRING YOUR GYM BAG TO WORK
Working in an office, while not physically demanding, is still exhausting. We spend the whole day typing and sitting, and when we get home, we have no desire to head to the gym. So why not bring some light gym equipment to squeeze in a 30-minute workout at lunchtime?
