GOT CRAVINGS?
Some nights, all you want is candy and chocolate. Other nights, a bag of chips. It’s so easy to cave into our unhealthiest food cravings (we’re only human, after all). But did you know these cravings may signal a nutrient deficiency?
Listen to what your body is trying to tell you and nip those munchies in the bud!

SALTY
A 2008 study found that people with salty food cravings are more likely to have calcium and magnesium deficiency. You might also notice that you crave salty foods more when you’re dehydrated or under a lot of stress. Instead of reaching for potato chips, registered dietitian Jessica Crandall suggests eating pumpkin seeds instead. They’re great for snacking and can help supply the minerals your body might be missing.

SWEET
Your sweet tooth may be due to low blood sugar levels, but it can also result from genetics or repeated exposure (i.e. maybe you’re just used to having dessert). To satisfy your taste buds, Crandall recommends ending your meal with fruit such as frozen grapes.

OTHER WAYS
When willpower isn’t enough, there are other ways to combat your cravings. Try having mint tea or brushing your teeth after eating. This may cleanse your palate and put you back in control of your diet.
