We’re used to taking the Sun for granted. Even on cloudy and rainy days, we know that it’s above us somewhere, and soon we’ll see it again. But do we really know how important it is to our bodies?

8. The health of your heart would be at risk

No sunlight means that our body won’t be able to produce vitamin D. This vitamin plays an important role in protecting us from heart diseases. Ultraviolet rays also regulate blood pressure. So without the Sun, we are more prone to cardiovascular problems.

7. A reduced chance of having a baby

Without sunlight, there will be more melatonin in a woman’s body. This is a hormone that suppresses fertility, thereby reducing her chances of conceiving a baby. Moreover, women who get less sunlight reach their menopause earlier than those who are exposed to the Sun.
Men can also suffer from the lack of sunlight; it directly influences testosterone levels.

6. Raw nerves

It’s believed that if children don’t get enough sunlight, they’ll be more at risk of developing multiple sclerosis, a disease of the central nervous system, when they become adults.

5. All those aches and pains

Without sunlight, be prepared to get more pains all over your body. Sunlight helps to warm the body’s muscles and reduce the pain caused by inflammatory conditions such as arthritis.

4. No sunny emotions

Without the Sun, you’ll have less serotonin — the happiness hormone — in your body. And though there are other ways of making yourself happier, regular sunlight is the easiest and the most natural way, especially if it’s combined with exercise.

3. Reduced immunity

Less sunlight means fewer white blood cells. And the fewer such cells you have, the harder it is for you to fight infections.

2. More cavities

Even our teeth will suffer without the Sun. It was discovered that people who get less sunlight develop more problems with their teeth, such as cavities.

1. Eternal winter blues

Without sunlight, we would be forever stuck with seasonal affective disorder (SAD), commonly known as the winter blues. It’s a form of depression that is specifically caused by a lack of sunlight. Artificial light cannot fully replace natural sunlight.

Although sunlight is highly beneficial for our bodies, remember that too much Sun is also not a very good thing. Ultraviolet rays can cause sunburn and skin diseases — even cancer. All things are good only in moderation.
